Phonophoresis is a physical therapy technique that combines ultrasound and topical medications. Medrx prepares compounds for patients to take to their physical therapy clinics for phonophoresis. Phonophoresis treats inflammation and pain in muscles, ligaments, and joints. It’s similar to iontophoresis, however, unlike Phonophoresis that uses ultra sound, Iontophoresis delivers topical medications through your skin using electrical currents. Medications commonly used in phonophoresis include dexamethasone, hydrocortisone, and lidocaine.
